Alligator!

I had such a fun time this weekend! Allison's wedding festivities were so fun and everything was beautiful! Now they are in the Bahamas...wish I was there...
Calee and I drove back to Daphne today and the weather was awful. Rain, rain, rain! My little brother is leaving in the morning for Thailand for 2 months for a mission trip so we went to see him on our way back. I'm so proud of him but I'll miss him so much! Keep him in your prayers.
We pretty much made up our minds that we weren't going running today because of the weather and we were exhausted. But then, the rain stopped and it was perfect 72 degrees. Our running shoes were calling for us so we decided we had to go. The highlight of our run was when we took a new route and went down by a boardwalk on the bay. Guess what was right under us....a gator! It was a baby one but it was still neat to see was so close up. It's great having a running buddy for the next month!
See you soon...run hard!

Insomnia

Last night I was asleep by 10 pm which was probably a little too early because I woke up at 1 am wide awake! Frustrating! So, I got up and read a little and made sure I had everything packed again. I laid back down and finally got a couple more hours of sleep.

I just had my breakfast of oatmeal with cranberries and coffee, which is my favorite pre-run food.

It is lovely outside so here I go!

Happy weekend everyone!

treading

Today, I woke up about noon. I'm almost on a normal schedule and I'm super happy about that. I got ready to run and decided today had to be a gym day. It was about 90 degrees! I ended up on the treadmill but still had a good 5.5 mile run. My run consisted of increasing my speed during each mile and sprinting the last mile. I love speed training! It builds endurance and keeps inside runs fun! Then, I did a few of the arms, legs, and back weight machines. (I have puny arms!) So, I would say that I had a good workout today.
Then I went grocery shopping, cooked dinner, cleaned, and packed for the weekend. I'm absolutely exhausted and ready for bed!
Have fun running friends!

hills, hills, hills!!!

I had a great run this evening around my neighborhood filled with wonderfully difficult hills. I am lucky and cursed with very hilly roads where I live. I ran 6.5 miles today in 82 degree heat. It was a great break from the gym! I have been doing way too many runs inside. Today marks the beginning of a stretch off of work and a night shift schedule and I'm thrilled! It is so wonderful to get to run outside in the morning time! It just smells, looks, and feels different, you know?

I'm a bridesmaid in a friend from high school's wedding in Tuscaloosa on Saturday. It's so hard to believe so many of my friends are already married! My hubby and I have already been married 2 years this month. Crazy and amazing! I'm staying with my best friend, Calee this weekend. She and I recently signed up for Disney World Full marathon 2011! Maybe we can get a couple runs in while I'm up there visiting. It's a good change to have a running buddy!

Unfortunately I have mounds of laundry to work on and I'm getting a little hungry. Hard boiled eggs? Yes, please!

Until next time,
Leah B.

224 days until Disney World Full Marathon!

I have decided...

I'm going to start blogging again. Well, to say "again" is not quite right because I only wrote a couple entries before I stopped last fall. But, with new inspiration from my future sister-in-law, Brianna, I have decided to dedicate this blog to the many loves of my life. One of which is running. Running has become a major part of my life that I love and need!

To start from the beginning....
I started running track in high school. I did it for fun. I actually got to go to state my senior year for my division and placed 3rd in pole vault. Then, in college, I kept up running to stay healthy and in shape. My very first running partner is one of my best friends even today, Jessica. She was always positive and encouraging and super fun to run with!

So, here I am post college. I had started my new job about a year and a half ago as a RN and met my friend Alicia. We got into some great running conversations and I was so impressed that she had done so many long distance runs. She talked me into going to an interest meeting for Team in Training which is a team that trains people to run marathons/triathlons while raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma society. I never would've thought I could run a marathon. 26.2 miles...what!? But by the end of that meeting I signed up for a full marathon!!! I ended up completing the Marine Corps Marathon last October in Washington, DC. All I can say is it was the most amazing experience! Thanks Alicia and TNT for the motivation and encouragement!

Since then, I've done a few half marathons and I'm loving it! I've signed up for
Disney World Full Marathon 2011 in January with Calee! Jerry graduates in December so we are making a week long vacation out of it. 226 days to go.

Until next time (and there will be one),
Leah
